Pest Control and Controlled Substance Training

Pest control in New Zealand involves various methods and substances, each with specific regulatory requirements. Pindone is a restricted vertebrate toxic agent used for controlling rabbits and other pest animals. Pindone Liquid is classified 6.1C Toxic, MPI want to ensure it is not entering our food chain. Any detection of these pest control products would seriously affect our export market if found to be in meat products.

Because it is not a Vertebrate Toxic Agent (VTA) in Category 1 or Category 2 Acute Toxicity it is not a Controlled Substance Licence (CSL) product neither does it require a Certified Handlers Certificate. HSW:HS Regulations 2017

This training is vital for rural contractors, farmers, and pest control operators who are applying Pindone pellets broadcast and Pindone Liquid baited carrots to control rabbits and need to ensure their operations are both effective and compliant with New Zealand’s high safety standards.

On completion of this training an Approved Users Training Certificate will be issued which is required in your application to MPI for an Approved Pindone Handlers Licence.

Vertebrate Toxic Agents (VTAs) are substances used to control pests animals and border control fumigation. Their use is tightly controlled, often requiring a Controlled Substance Licence (CSL) which is approved and issued by WorkSafe. The CSL is a critical certification for individuals who possess or use certain hazardous substances, including many VTAs.
